Why does my team suck?

I’m trying to figure out why my fantasy baseball team sucks so bad.  I usually finish in the top 3-4 and this year I am hanging in 9th place (been stuck there for a while too).  There are lots of things to take in during a draft.  Fantasy experts tell you to draft NL pitchers over AL (NL Pitchers don’t have to face a DH).  You also hear about the 27 year old hitter (the year a hitter is supposed to have his career year, or break out).  So I am comparing my team (Will) to the 1st place team.

Average Age

Will - 26.9

1st - 28.23

Players 30 or over

Will - 2

1st - 9

Pitchers - NL/AL

Will - 1/9  (My 1 NL pitcher is on the DL and only pitched 4.2 innings)

1st - 5/5

Hitters - NL/AL

Will - 8/4

1st - 5/7

# of Lead Off Hitters

Will - 2

1st - 2

# of Players on a Team Above .500 (Win%)

Will - 11

1st - 15

So what can you learn from this? Draft experienced players (hitters in the AL pitchers in the NL) on winning teams.  I can’t believe what I have done to my team on the pitching NL/AL split.  The other problem is my age; I just have a very young team.  And guess what?  My pitching categories are awful and my BA is the worst in the league.
