New York Tech Meetup
I used to go to these all the time when I first moved to NY in late 2006, but stopped attending after my brother and I sat through a couple meetups with some pretty rotten presenters. Last night I decided to give it another shot and I was impressed by the quality of the presenters and the companies they were demoing.
The coolest company from last night had to be Transclick. The company was created by ex-hedge fund manager/Columbia Business School professor Robert Levin. Transclick translates IM, SMS, and email messages in real time to a number of different languages. They went through and translated a few IM’s for us in the demo and talked about there existing contracts international groups such as NATO. Douglas Adams would be proud.
We (maybe me) should set up some @alleyhour gatherings on twitter after the Tech Meetup’s in the future.
