My Analytics
I have three services tracking activity on this blog: Google Analytics, FeedBurner, and Lijit. Other than all three agreeing that not many people read this blog, the feedback is not conclusive. Here are some stats that are confusing me:
- Google Analytics reports 34% higher number of page views than Lijit. GA reports 16% more page views than FeedBurner.
- Google Analytics and FeedBurner agree on the number of Visits this blog has received.
- Google Analytics reports the average time spent on the site 54% lower than FeedBurner.
- Lijit tells me I am getting a significant amount of traffic from Boston. FeedBurner and GA report almost no traffic from Boston.
There are plenty of other discrepancies, but those stood out to me. I understand that all of these services use different methodologies, but some of these numbers are not even close. How come Lijit is seeing 90% more page views coming from Boston than GA or FB?
The small sample size certainly doesn’t help. My best guess is that most people who read this blog live in New York City and Dallas. That makes sense because I live in NY and went to school at SMU in Dallas. It’s also funny that the traffic here is small enough that I could tell, just by eyeballing the map overlays and total page view numbers, that Taylor is not in Lubbock and hasn’t been spending as much time online over the past few weeks. All of a sudden there is a lot (for me) of traffic coming out of Detroit. How was the Tigers game last night Taylor?
